Gray doesn’t describe the mood for fall because of cloudy skies, dipping temperatures, and our cyclical symptoms of seasonal affective disorder coming into play. Gray is the shade du jour because the color authority that is Pantone declared Turbulence — a fancy word for slate gray — as one of the hues of the season.
Ritzy fashion houses like Céline, Chloé, and Reed Krakoff strutted their sartorial 50 shades of gray down the runway while smoky gray eyes and gray glitter-dusted nails ran rampant at John Galliano, Alexander Wang, and Nicholas K. Luckily, the gray lipstick trend hasn’t returned (and fingers crossed it’ll remain dead and buried) but if you want to match your nails and lids to the looks of the season, here you go.
