In A Summer Makeup Rut? Just Add Sequins

comments

Web1 Shimmer and glitter is fine and dandy, but when you want to really up your beauty bling, go for sequins. Yes, I'm talking about the embellishments you find at the arts and crafts stores. I was inspired by the flashy runway look from Givenchy’s spring shows. Makeup guru Pat McGrath applied half of a sequin to the top and bottom of each eye. I revised the look by only using it on the bottom lashes. It's a great way to add a bit of subtle shimmer to your summer nights. And, the best thing about it is that it pairs well with dewy summer skin.

Step 1: Starting with a clean face apply a dime-sized amount of BB cream. I used Dr. Jart + Black Label Detox.

Step 2: This look relies on a fresh face so go to town with your highlighter. I am obsessed with Claudio Riaz Complexion Highlighter, which glides on perfectly with your fingers. I applied it to my cupid’s bow, cheekbones, corners of my eyes, under the arch of my brow bone, and the ridge of my nose.

Step 3: You don’t want to look super-pale, so add a bit of color. Using a brush, lightly dust bronzer along your cheekbones and nose.

Web2Step 4: Apply liner to your upper lashline. Avoid liquids and black liners, which can look overly harsh. Opt for a brown or navy pencil liner. I used Stila Smudge Stick.

Step 5: Using your scissors, cut a sequin in half. Apply eyelash glue on one half.

Step 6: Using a pair of tweezers, place the sequin directly in the middle of your lower lashline. If you need to adjust the sequin use the back of the tweezers to gently nudge it into place. The sequin should hug your lashline.

Step 7: Apply a single layer of mascara to your upper lashes. I like Benefit They’re Real! Mascara.

Step 8: Finish the look with a nude lipstick. I applied Lipstick Queen Endless Summer in Hang Ten.
