Breakfast At Barneys With Designer Joseph Altuzarra: “Commercial Is Not A Bad Word”

Altuzarra is all about signature sexiness. Not the ingenue sex appeal of young girls in their twenties but the grown-up, confident sultriness of the likes of Meryl Streep and Diane Lane, women who have reached their fashionable and professional peaks later in life. This morning, Mr. Altuzarra revealed this idea of the professional woman he achieves to dress and also what inspired his current collection during an intimate discussion of spring trends with Barneys' Fashion Director Amanda Brooks.
Amidst delectable samplings of fruit tarts and pale iced green tea, we got to hear Joseph explain that his current collection was channeled all sorts of internet research: from '60s fashion, tribal influences, abstract paintings from the '70s to sportswear from the '90s. We were particularly impressed when he unabashedly revealed his very democratic taste in movies (Twilight, anyone?), which serve as inspiration points for his collections. For a man of such impeccable taste, Mr. Altuzarra is also a man of the people, and for that, we love him even more.
