What’s your all-time favorite dish to bake?
Anna: "I actually have more of a savory background in the culinary field, and I love to make Italian food. Californian ingredients translate so well to Italian food — Chicken Saltimbucca, asparagus, fresh cheeses, fresh fruit. The sheer variety of local ingredients that are available is really exciting."
Lenore: "I love baking chocolate-chip cookies! Cookies of any kind, really."
Who are your professional role models?
Anna: "In the baking profession, Belinda Leong is so talented, and her dedication to the craft is an inspiration."
Lenore: "Pie-making sisters Emily and Melissa Elsen of Brooklyn's 4&20 Blackbirds are up there, and obviously Martha Stewart is an incredible business woman. Big picture, though, both of us are inspired by public figures who are out there making the world a better place. Jane Goodall is particularly inspirational. Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Melinda Gates, and Michelle Obama rock our socks off!"
If you weren’t baking, what else would you be doing?
Anna: "Hiking, running, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with my family at our ranch in the California foothills."
Lenore: "If I weren't working all the time, I'd be traveling the world for fun. If I weren't working in food, I'd be some other kind of entrepreneur in a business with a socially positive function. Any chance I get to help other people connect, engage, and grow, pretty much makes my day."
