Reine On

Getting a bold endorsement from a fashion legend in the making is always a welcome omen. But from the looks of Israeli-born designer, Mirit Weinstock's stunning new women's line, Reine, the plug is secondary. The adoration, as well as the training, came via Alber Elbaz of Lanvin. He recently said of Weinstock's debut collection for fall, "...her line is creative, conceptual, precise...and inspirational."

Weinstock also trained under British iconoclast Alexander McQueen, and while there is little evidence of the sensationalist spirit of her former boss, a pause through the new line shows influence of a sharply trained eye: thoughtfully placed seams, soft bows at dropped necklines and open backs, a somber palette of shades and muted fabrics such as chiffon, silk, and tulle. The pieces have a sensual appeal but with the slightest nod to menswear, Weinstock lends them structure and modernity...her former mentors should surely approve.
