How did you get into the sport?
"The girls that lived across the street from me were a family of synchronized swimmers. When they babysat me, they would sew sequins one-by-one onto their competition swimsuits. I was immediately sold by the sparkles. I signed up at the local pool when I was 6 (we lied about my age to get me in the class), and then I went on to compete in club and collegiate circuits."
What about the Aqualillies?
"I found the company pretty quickly when I moved back to L.A., and sent in an application to Aqualillies Casting. I missed synchronized swimming and wanted to be an Aqualilly so badly! Eventually I got a wonderful phone call: Was I available to perform at the 2010 TCM Film Festival...for Esther Williams? Um, yes. I was definitely available. And I loved performing so much that I've made sure to be available since."
What inspires you?
"Living a balanced and life. Water and being in the water. Great artists and thinkers of the past. Esther Williams, anything vintage or Old Hollywood. Geometry. In fashion, people that ROCK their own unique looks."
What's your favorite swimwear brand and why?
"I love Jantzen, because they NEVER fall off, and Mikoh suits are HOT. I also like buying plain tops/bottoms and adding embellishments."
What's the best waterproof makeup?
"Tarte. Absolutely!"
How do you keep your hair hydrated?
"I use a deep conditioner about once a week — I like Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask."
What do you think about when underwater? What helps you focus?
"I love being underwater; it's like I'm a superhero who just got her powers back. I feel free, totally weightless, and acrobatic. When I'm performing, I focus on the routine and the audience — I'm completely in the moment."
Describe your outside-of-the-pool style.
"Casual, comfortable, classic with a slight edge toward rocker-chic. A lot of my swimsuits double up as bodysuits or cute bras — I'm into multi-use in my clothing items!"
