What We're Wearing This Fashion Week

As fashion editors, we spend a lot of time thinking about what other women are wearing, and what they'd like to wear. We consider ourselves lucky that we get to pass our days stressing, fretting, dreaming, and laboring over everything that clothes can do for a person — whether that's as simple as just keeping them covered or as wondrously complicated as telling their story. And, as people for whom fashion and personal style are so important, we take advantage of every opportunity to turn the dial up.

Now, our attention is focused on the upcoming Fashion Weeks, where we can try out those next-level silhouettes, styling tricks, and statement pieces that we've been waiting for months to flaunt. And, if you think this is just an excuse to peacock…well, it is. You wouldn't show up to a Halloween party dressed in just a novelty headband and call yourself a fan of the holiday, would you? To prove that we walk the talk, five of our editors are here to show off three looks they're planning on sporting in the weeks ahead. Click through, and you may just pick up on how our own styles seep into Refinery29's fashion vibe. First up? Our fearless leader.

"When it comes to coats (and prints) I'm a go BIG or go home kind of gal. In a way, they feel like an extra-special security blanket. And, this green-and-white tassel one from H&M is sort of the find of the season. It has such a great fit in the shoulders, and the full, swingy skirt feels really elegant and modern to me. Side note: This vintage Dries Van Noten clutch has been to more shows than I have; it gets 'borrowed' from my desk all the time!"

"I think the key to making wild coats work for you is making sure the fit is practically perfect so the pattern doesn't envelope you. Although, sometimes that can be fun (and weird), too."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"My earring game lately is a little all over the place, but I'm loving my tiny red studded Assembly earring and the letter B that I found at Steven Alan."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"One word: Harbison. As soon as I saw these culottes on Charles Harbison's runway, I knew I had to own them. The pattern is just TOO GOOD. Like, Art Deco meets Tahiti — or something like that.

Harbison pants and top; Prada shoes; Pierre Hardy bag.

"The top is also Harbison and a perfect palate cleanser for those beautiful bottoms."

"I bought these sunglasses at the Other Stories shop in Paris; they make wonderful, quality shades for under $100. I love their chic but don't-mess-with-me vibe."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"As for my shoes, I can credit eBay for all my best finds. Like these, last season's Prada double-buckle platforms: high and holy!"
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"Confession: This silk organza floral dress by Marissa Webb keeps me up at night. It is, quite honestly, the most perfect dress EVER. I know most women would wear it with a slip beneath, but I love it more than life over these vintage Dries Van Noten pants (also scored on eBay). If I could duplicate this dress in 10 patterns and colors, I absolutely would. Wait, could I?"

"The luxury vegan designers at Freedom of Animals crafted the bag, which will undoubtedly become my go-to of the season. The baby blue color calms me. Don't you feel chill just looking at it?

"Can we talk about the genius that these track-soled Zara sandals are? They are hands-down the most comfortable shoe I've had on my feet in ages. I love them so much I bought the black version, too. Try to run in them — you can do it! And, for busy women like this crew, there's just no need to suffer on the sidewalk. Ever."

"That's no fancy bralette under my dress. It's a $5 workout bra from Kmart. And, it's awesome."

"I recently bleached and dyed my hair a cotton-candy pink, and I've felt like it's allowed me to take more risks with the rest of my look, too. Those spots you see are actually lips, and it's a matching shirt, blazer, and trouser set. I consider this my version of a three-piece suit!"

"During one Refinery29 thrifting field trip, I picked up this speckled off-the-shoulder top originally made by St. John for a whopping 99 cents. I've worn it to death this summer already, as a beach cover-up, with my cutoffs, and now, with super-wide gauchos. It's got a little bit of that West Side Story meets What Ali Wore vibe that I really love.

"Hem, meet sock, meet shoe!"

"This is my version of ladylike: The shirt is a recent score from Exodus Goods in New Orleans featuring a bunch of fierce hairstyles dreamed up by the Okpo sisters, and it dresses down the fuzzy black pencil skirt and single-strap heels. I'll leave the crop tops to Annie!"

William Okpo T-shirt; Zara shoes; vintage jacket; Topshop bag.

"Two of the 16 hair looks (and a bonus bedhead look à la moi)."

"I picked up this jacket for 20 bucks at a thrift shop in Tokyo. It's satin, features a big ol' embroidered map of Japan on the back, and I don't plan on it leaving my shoulders until it gets too hot to wear it again."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"This outfit is all about these magical 'pants' I got from Front Row Shop. They're a full pair of pants with an attached apron skirt and loose suspenders. They're compliment-magnets, these guys. Conversely, they're also side-eye magnets, but I ignore that contingent of the subway! On top, I wore a boxy, structured racerback tank with a tiny, sternum-exposing scoop in the front."

Vintage Salvatore Ferragamo flats; Vintage deadstock sunglasses.

Edie Parker Lara Backlit, $995.00 Buy
Topshop Berry Blush Print Wrap Top, $100.00 Buy

"The bag is Edie Parker and is the adult's version of a Trapper Keeper."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"I picked up these vintage Ferragamo shoes for $50 at Metropolis Vintage in the East Village. They're leather espadrilles, so they're not exactly the most practical of shoes, but they're so charming that I find ways to wear them every year."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
Annie Georgia Greenberg, senior style editor
"This outfit was put together in the most haphazard way. I was walking around my house trying to think of what to wear. I tried the jumpsuit on because it's one of my favorite vintage pieces and, because I don't have a buzzer system, I slipped on the shoes to let my friend in. I checked myself out in the mirror for a second, and the next thing I know, bada-bing! I've got myself an outfit."

Suno Bar Cat Eye Sunglasses, $355.00 Buy

"So what if these sunglasses are (four sizes) too big for my small head? I love them. That's right, LOVE!"
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"I got these shoes at a church rummage sale for $5. Say what you will, but most pets cost a lot more than that, and I only have to walk these once in a while."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"I have been obsessed with this color and cut from Zimmermann's spring '14 collection since I saw it on a model in February. I decided to play up the girlishness with a pair of pastel pink Adeam shorts. In my opinion, the materials and colors go so well together they could have come walking down the runway at the same time. It's just effing pretty."

ADEAM shorts; Chelsea Paris shoes.
Zimmermann Tempo Off Shoulder Top, $785.00 Buy
Yliana Yepez Scarlett Watersnake Envelope Clutch, $695.00 Buy

"Practical isn't the first word that comes to mind with this construction, but I don't care. Who needs to lift their arms, anyway?"
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"The ties on these mules help them stay on my feet, so I can actually walk from show to show."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"This outfit is totally Christene Barberich-inspired. At least one Fashion Week outfit is directly lifted from something I think she'd wear. These pants (Vionnet from The Outnet) are perfectly tailored with hidden snaps, and make me feel 10 feet tall. (I'm 10 feet tall, right?) I decided to funk up the top to make a mix-and-matched tuxedo look. Plus, I always knew I'd go for a slicked hair look with this outfit to keep it appropriate for evening. I think I'll continue to try my hair this way, too."

Tibi blouse; Mark Cross bag, available at Max.
Topshop Lace Bralet, $44.00 Buy
Vionnet Wool-Blend Flared Pants, $298.75 Buy
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"I wanted to try the one-button thing because it's a creative styling trick for especially hot days. The sheerness of the Tibi blouse lends itself perfectly to a —shocker! — crop top underneath."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"Mark Cross makes the world's most durable, ladylike bags. This one's color and shape pop against the menswear-inspired look."

Naomi Nevitt, shopping and market director
"I found this Miu Miu dress at Woodbury Commons this summer. I paired it with my favorite creepers to keep it honest during Fashion Week — I love riding the subway between shows, listening to punk music at full blast to decompress a bit, always trying to remember to be myself amongst the chaos."

"I have a full-on sweater obsession and this fall continues to be the season of the turtleneck. I just bought this one from Aritzia. I'm wearing it with a mesh Topshop mini skirt and my Céline wooden wedges I scored on eBay. Those shoes are my babies!"

Wilfred Free Lin Sweater, $165.00 Buy
Charles David Tamela, $124.95 Buy

"I'm a big believer that feeling comfortable makes you more stylish. I'm leaning toward flatforms and midi-skirts this year to look polished, but still be able to walk from show to show. No town cars for this girl — and proud of it!"
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"There's something about pairing something traditional with something sporty that feels so fresh this season."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"I love a dress with a drop waist and this one stays true to my schoolgirl-uniform outfit leanings. I dressed it up a bit with my 3.1 Phillip Lim necklace and tried-and-true Proenza booties."
Jil Sander Navy Dress, $580.00 Buy
Jil Sander Full-Length Jacket, $1,107.00 Buy
Whistles Limited Sake Zip Front Boot, $425.00 Buy
3.1 Phillip Lim Tubular Bianca Necklace, $175.00 Buy

"I scored this necklace at a sample sale a couple years ago. It was sitting in a corner in an unopened box, so it hadn't been ravished like the bags and shoes. I get so many compliments on it! "
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"Blue and black is one of my favorite color combos, even though it's a 'fashion don't.'"
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
Emily Holland, styling director
"I thought mainly about comfort on this one! I tend to like things oversized, so the looseness of the dress was right up my alley. The bold print was a little outside my comfort zone, but if there's ever a time to take risks, it's during Fashion Week. Paired with comfortable shoes and a big bag to hold all of my invites, I'll be the most comfortable girl at the show."

Reed Krakoff bag.
Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Silk-Blend Darth Vader Dress, $2,155.00 Buy
adidas Stan Smith, $74.95 Buy
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"This dress is all about the print. The Darth Vader image and the geometric print surrounding him is a true show stopper."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"I think of this bag as my version of a light saber."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"If I could wear a jumpsuit every day, I would. They’re fun and a one-stop piece in my closet. This one from Whistles is super figure-flattering — the tie gives me a cinched-in waist while the super-long and wide pant legs make me look extra tall."

Whistles jumpsuit.
Alexis Bittar Lucite Kinshasa Wide Bracelet, $245.00 Buy
Illesteva Frieda, $230.00 Buy

"One bangle adds just enough without distracting from the awesomeness of the jumpsuit. The simplicity of this particular bangle pairs nicely with the clean lines of the jumpsuit."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"These Illesteva sunglasses add a little bit of fun to an otherwise monochromatic look. If you're afraid of a lot of print and pattern, start small with your accessories."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"This look was started with the jacket. I got it at the Carven store during the summer heat, so I’ve been saving it for a special occasion. I love the boxiness and oversized shape. I paired it with a pair of cropped trousers in a small print. I love mixing prints; keeping one print small and one larger always makes for a great combo."

Carven jacket; Topshop trousers; Chanel shoes and bag.
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"The appliqués on the back of my jacket make it snap-worthy from all angles."
Photographed by Kristiina Wilson.
"These Chanel shoes are eye-catching but the platform makes them comfy enough to run from show to show. Since the pants and jacket are on the oversized side, I kept the shoes proportional with the rest of the outfit."
