Most of us see rainbow highlighter and ask two things: Will it work on my skin tone? And how the hell do I make it look subtle?

Those are the wrong questions. The beauty of this look, says Mellinger, is "that you don't have to play by any skin-tone rules, since the colors are so unnatural." If you're going for blue highlighter, all you need to consider is how much of a statement you're willing to make.

Mellinger lightly contoured Andreja's cheekbones with a matte brown powder before drawing Milk Makeup's Holographic Sticks in Mars and Supernova across the tops of them and up around her temples in a crescent moon shape. A soft tap-tap-tap of highlighter along the brow bone and the highest points of the cheekbones is just as pretty for real-life.

"Kissable" lips are overrated. Why tone down your color, sparkle, or shine just for someone else? For this look, Mellinger mixed Makeup Geek's Duochrome Pigment in Hologram with clear mixing gloss, then brushed it generously across Andreja's lips. The wet, shimmery result is the stuff of middle school dreams.

Mellinger first wrapped Andreja's eyes in Stila Magnificent Glitter & Glow Eye Shadow in Sea Siren, then tapped Pat McGrath Pigment in Astral White onto the center of the lids and inner corners for a high-beam sheen. "Don't start with the powder," she warns, "or it'll look doughy." She finished off the look with Shiseido Luminizing Lip Gloss in V1107, a sheer fuchsia.

Sometimes, the best ideas are staring you right in the face. When talking about the inspiration for this holographic shoot, the word 'cellophane' was thrown around a lot, but it wasn't until the end of the day that Mellinger actually attempted to cut thin strips of the stuff and press it onto Andreja's lashline with adhesive. It took a couple minutes and looked cool as hell.

In the event you don't have cellophane lying around the house, a mix of eye gloss and glitter will look just as mesmerizing. Mellinger used Kevyn Aucoin's Exotique Diamond Eye Gloss In Moonlight as the base, then dabbed on a blend of Stila Magnificent Glitter & Glow Eye Shadow in Sea Siren and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Glitter in Spark. The effect brightens the entire face like highlighter.
