5 Celebs Who Are Proud Of Their Scars

Scars tell a story — some painful, some empowering, and some a bit of both. But however you got them, you shouldn't feel like you have to hide them. And the five celebrities ahead are proof.

From Kylie Jenner writing a love letter to her thigh scar to Francia Raísa proudly flaunting her kidney incisions on the red carpet, the women ahead are beautiful reminders of just how powerful scars (and the stories behind them) can be. These women, who insist that their scars not be edited, airbrushed, or posed out of magazine or Instagram images, are changing the dialogue around these so-called "imperfections." And we couldn't be more excited about it.

Read their inspiring stories, ahead.

Padma Lakshmi

The Top Chef host and author has proudly shown off her 7-inch arm scar, which was a result of a traumatic car accident when she was 14, for years. And recently, she put it front and center for a promotional image on Bravo's Instagram page. “It’s what sets me apart and makes me me, and even if someone could wave a magic wand, I really don’t think I would choose to eliminate my scar,” Lakshmi told Self.
Francia Raísa

Raísa is the kind of BFF was all need by our side. The actress recently donated her kidney to Selena Gomez, and showed off her stomach incision scars on the red carpet. "I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process," Raisa wrote on Instagram.
Kylie Jenner

Back in 2015, Jenner posted a picture from the makeup chair, proudly showing off the prominent thigh scar she got from a childhood accident. "I love my scar," she declared.
Stassi Schroeder

The Vanderpump Rules star recently spoke out about her refusal to have her breast reduction scars edited out of a skin-baring photoshoot. "It’s a scar — scars are pretty! I’m so proud of my body because it’s mine," Schroeder told People.

Ariel Winter

The Modern Family actress has also been vocal about her decision to undergo breast reduction surgery. At the SAG awards following her "life changing" procedure, her dress revealed her surgery scars and Winter was thrilled. "Guys there is a reason I didn't make an effort to cover up my scars!" she wrote on Twitter. "They are part of me and I'm not ashamed of them at all. :)"
