30 Things You Didn't Know About The Riverdale Cast

Riverdale is finally back! Soon, we'll hopefully have some answers about who shot Fred Andrews (Luke Perry). Of course, that's only one of many unanswered questions we have about the CW show, but we can't expect the network to give away all of its mysteries. At least we know the disturbing truth about who killed Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines).

Luckily, there's much less mystery surrounding who the Riverdale actors are offscreen. K.J. Apa, for example, is a brunette from New Zealand — if you haven't heard his real accent, well, he sounds nothing like Archie Andrews. Plus, did you know that Riverdale is Camila Mendes' first time acting professionally, ever? You'd never know it from watching her on the show.

We'll have to wait until tonight to learn more about what's going on in Riverdale these days. Though there aren't many new clues about the soapy series' upcoming storylines, there's plenty of information to be found about the show's beguiling stars. Even if you're a super fan, you probably don't know all of these facts.

K.J. Apa has a New Zealand accent.

He disguises it well on the show.
K.J. Apa is half Samoan.

In addition to being from New Zealand, Apa is Samoan, too. His father is a Samoan chief.
Apa's not a natural redhead.

As he explained to Jimmy Fallon, Apa's signature Archie hair color is a dye job. He's really a brunette.
The hair bleaching process once burned holes in Apa's skin.

"It was really painful the first and the second time I got it done because they do my eyebrows as well," the actor told Vulture of getting his hair bleached to be dyed red. "They ended up bleaching my eyebrows, and I had two holes — they burnt into my skin. I was like, 'Oh, my, we've got to sort this out.' Luckily, I haven't had that again, but yeah, it was pretty gnarly."
Cole Sprouse only has one Jughead beanie.

Okay, fine, that's technically a fact about the set and not about Sprouse himself. We hope it gets washed frequently.
Riverdale is Camila Mendes' first professional acting project.

She booked the role of Veronica Lodge right after graduating from NYU.
Lili Reinhart, K.J. Apa, and Camila Mendes were all originally turned down for their Riverdale roles.

Reinhart revealed the news in a Coveteur interview.
Madelaine Petsch originally auditioned to play Betty.

"I went in and saw David Rapaport, the casting director, for Legends of Tomorrow in [late] 2015. He was like, 'I love you for this role,' but [later said], 'I want you for a pilot I'm casting right now," Petsch told Glamour. "He brought me in for Betty Cooper on Riverdale a week later to meet producers. He said, 'You're obviously not auditioning for Betty; it's for another part that I can't tell you about yet. You look exactly like I imagine her to look, and you've got the presence.' So, they pinned me for the role after they met me for Betty, for four months. By that point it was early January [and I] read for producers for the role of Cheryl. [The director and producers] were like, 'You've got this role.' They brought me in for studio testing, network testing, chemistry reading, etc. When I eventually got the call [that the role was mine], I started crying."
Lili Reinhart is an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness.

She's been open about her depression on Twitter and encourages her fans to practice self-care.
Cole Sprouse once dressed up as Atlantis' Milo Thatch.

Note the pants.
K.J. Apa wants Betty and Archie to be the endgame.

"Before I became involved with it, I wasn't familiar with Archie at all, but I think, because of how famous the Betty and Archie thing is, I would love to see Betty and Archie get together," he told Vulture. "I think it's so iconic, and everyone kind of wants that. If there was any relationship that I would ship for, it would be Archie and Betty, which is kind of a classic, iconic relationship."

Speak for yourself and let the Bughead shippers live, K.J.
Cole Sprouse likes the idea of Betty and Archie being together, too.

"I actually really ship Betty and Archie," Sprouse told Elle in April. "When I would read the Archie comics when I was younger I was rooting for Betty and Archie way over any alternative. [I think I would have seen] that long-lived, childlike romance from two people knowing each other since youth as probably quite romantic. I am a sucker for that childhood romance narrative."
Ashleigh Murray isn't afraid to speak out about equal representation in Hollywood.

She told Teen Vogue that she's tired of being confused with Yara Shahidi.
K.J. Apa is a musician offscreen, too.

It's not just Archie who loves playing the guitar.
Lili Reinhart and Madelaine Petsch are roommates.

The pair live together while filming in Vancouver.
K.J. Apa's real name is Keneti James Fitzgerald.

"I always go by K.J.," the actor told Vulture in February. "My real name is Keneti James Fitzgerald, but K.J. stands for Keneti James, which is a Samoan name."
K.J. Apa has a shoulder tattoo in honor of his Samoan heritage.

"I got that when I was 15 when my dad became the chief of his village," Apa told Vulture in the same interview.
Apa once acted in a New Zealand soap opera — and Ed Sheeran even made an appearance on the show.

Fans learned this news thanks to Cole Sprouse's Instagram, naturally.
Apparently, all of the Riverdale stars are terrible cooks.

When Glamour asked Petsch who she'd want to make her dinner, she responded, "Uh, probably myself?! Nobody really cooks on this show!"
Cole Sprouse's costars all loved The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

Who didn't?
Lili Reinhart loves Taco Bell.

She frequently shares her love for the fast food chain on Twitter.
Madelaine Petsch grew up reaching Archie.

K.J. Apa, meanwhile, admits that he wasn't familiar with the comics before Riverdale.
Casey Cott once did a photoshoot with Younger star Sutton Foster.

The pair were both featured in the May 2015 issue of Town & Country.
Cole Sprouse had a crush on Jennifer Aniston while filming Friends.

Sprouse played Ross's son, Ben, and he told the New York Post it was "difficult" to film with Aniston.

"I had a really, really hard time working with Aniston because I was so in love with her," Sprouse told the Post. "I was infatuated. I was speechless — I'd get all bubbly and forget my lines and completely blank … It was so difficult."
Lili Reinhart is a meme queen.

If you're not following her on Twitter, get to it.
Cole Sprouse isn't afraid to make fun of himself.

He knows that not everything he's said in the past was perfect.
Madelaine Petsch is just fine having Cheryl Blossom stay single.

"I don't think I want Cheryl to have a relationship. What I love so much about Cheryl right now is she might not be strong, but she's still an independent woman who can carry her own, and she doesn't need a man to do that. That's beautiful, and I think we very rarely see that in teen television," Petsch told Glamour. "I think very often, little girls look at these teen television shows and think, 'I have to have a boyfriend, because Blair Waldorf has a boyfriend, and she's always fighting over boys!' I love that people can look at Cheryl and see she's an independent woman who can hold her own and doesn't have a boyfriend. I think that's great."
Cole Sprouse loves photography.

This one isn't much of a secret to fans — but it's still worth pointing out just how good he is at capturing images. He also started a second Instagram account dedicated to catching fans taking photos of him.
