Surfer’s paradise steps from the seafront
Eat: There is no restaurant, but as the hotel is part of Pier Village there are cafés and restaurants galore on your doorstep; Avenue is two minutes’ walk away where a three-course prix-fixe turkey dinner with all the stuffing and cranberry trims.
Sleep: Rooms start at $417 in this pier-perched and art-filled bunk-ups created by interior-designer owners who you may know from the TV show ‘Home by Novogratz’. With its fresh East Coast vibe, it sure shows. It’s a wave-rider’s paradise, as shown by the room names (Aloha, Hang Loose, Lil’ Pipeline and the like), and quirky artworks abound: a huge Queen Elizabeth stamp, ‘Vive La France’ flag and a denim Stars and Stripes.
Be merry: Bungalow Bar, with its mix of driftwood photo frames and Philippe Starck cowhide furniture, is an inviting place to perch with a cocktail or two. The bar is open from 4pm until midnight with a soothing soundtrack of lounge music. Enjoy a drink in the outdoor lounge area beside a beautiful glass-fronted garage-style door.
