Ames Hotel, Boston MA
Restyled Romanesque retreat in the towering Financial District
Eat: Plot up at one of the Windsor chairs in the hotel’s restaurant Woodward and enjoy New England comfort food with French and Mediterranean zing in this modern tavern. For a more intimate meal in this high-gloss hotspot on Boston’s hipster scene, book a table upstairs.
Sleep: Double rooms from $195. It may be a former company HQ but this 13-storey, 19th-century building with ravishing Romanesque windows, high ceilings, stripped oak floors, and understated colour palettes of greys and purples should ensure work is the last thing on your mind.
Be merry: Two bars form part of the restaurant, with an upmarket sports-style bar downstairs and a sleeker cocktail bar upstairs. A DJ at weekends helps get the party started.
