Whether you love Alex Wang's nearly subversive aesthetic or loathe his mainstream appeal, there's no doubt there's something special about the man and where the brand is going. Case in point: The first look of the evening consisted of a pin-striped suit (think more Jack Skellington than Michael Douglas in Wall Street) that was paired with thigh-high, velveteen bell bottoms—a difficult enough look for most Wangettes to swallow, but will nonetheless pop up all over the sidewalks come September. Typically odious fabrics like chenille and velvet ran rampant in the forms of cropped, layered jackets, sexy dresses, and even backpacks, but there was also lots of lace camisoles, camel-colored boardroom coats, and trousers with heavy-metal touches that could open Wang's world to some fiercely stylish, no-bullshit business women. And judging from the crowds that once again turned out, from Anna Wintour and Tavi to the troops who watched the American Eagle Times Square billboard, we ladies are still ready to take the Wang bait for another season.
