How To Have A Blast In S.F. This Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend typically divides us into two camps: those of us embarking on vacations and those planning staycations. If you're part of the latter, prepare yourself because it's going to be a jam-packed three days. Hit up the Bay's many parties — after all, the forecast calls for some heavyweight shopping, so snag some seriously necessary wardrobe additions (ahem, eye-catching necklaces, anyone?). And, hey, if you're itching to part with the city, head to BottleRock Music Festival to keep those relaxed vibes going through Sunday, June 1, with our SFMOMA offer below. So what if you're not heading to some far-flung locale? Ahead is proof you don't have to leave town to have a blast.

SHOP! Pop-Up At AAU
It's been a big month for the students of the Academy of Art University, but their creative juices haven't stopped flowing for summer break quite yet. Join them in their "up-cycled" pop-up shop, where prominent brands like Levi's, UNIQLO, and Banana Republic have donated clothing for the students to customize. Shop the one-of-a-kind designs, and enjoy the talents the collaborative collection has on display.
When: Tuesday, May 20, through Saturday, May 31, times vary.
Where: Academy of Art University, 2225 Jerrold Avenue (at Upton Street); no phone.
Takara Jewelry Trunk Show With Marisa Haskell
Naturally dyed and handmade, Takara's pieces are must-adds to your jewelry collection. Designed by Jen Goff, these eclectic beauties draw inspiration from all over the West Coast, from Portland (where they are crafted) to our very own city. Get a first glance at the wares, and meet the designer while you sip a beer and chat with other local accessory fiends. And, believe us when we say these baubles won't be around forever.
When: Saturday, May 24, noon to 6 p.m.
Where: Marisa Haskell, 470 49th Street (between Clarke Street and Telegraph Avenue), Oakland; 510-325-0019.
Amour Vert Memorial Day Trunk Show
Amour Vert has become our go-to for green fashion — the brand knocks it out of the park with its cool-girl fits. So, if you're prepared to travel for the goods, meet the team at Cavallo Point in Sausalito to see what trends you need, like, now. Shop and enjoy hanging out by the bay all weekend long — foreshadowing for summer, perhaps?
When: Friday, May 23, through Monday, May 26, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Cavallo Point, The Lodge at Golden Gate, 601 Murray Circle (at Bunker Road), Sausalito; 415-339-4700.
SFMOMA Brings You To BottleRock
The SFMOMA is looking out for you outside the museum walls, too. Yep, it wants your fun-o-meter to hit "super awesome!" at this year's BottleRock Music fest in Napa. Must-see bands such as Outkast, The Cure, Mayer Hawthorne, and The Fray are incentive enough, but the final selling point? Type in R29NAPA as the promo code and you can save up to $50. We'll see you dancing queens in wine country.
When: Friday, May 30, through Sunday, June 1
Where: Napa Valley Expo, 575 3rd Street (at Bailey Street); 707-253-4900.
