IKEA has heard the cries of cash-strapped, cramped city dwellers everywhere. Its new PS 2014 collection, launching in stores next week, features 40 pieces all focused on small-space solutions (a favorite topic at Refinery29). The theme of this line centers on mobility and multipurpose products, proving that the real solution is not to have smaller furniture but pieces that are simply more efficient.
Renting and not allowed to put any nails in your walls? There's a free-standing shelf that serves as a bag rack and a resting place for your books. If you're looking for a lamp and a stool, the home-goods retailer has also dreamed up an indoor/outdoor hybrid creature that's brilliant and mighty cute.
So, we chatted with Peter Klinkert, the head designer of special collections with IKEA's Swedish team, about the line's worldwide inspiration, global trends in design, and why small spaces need more smart products with dual functionality. Click on for the chic lookbook, and mark your calendar for April 1. Cramped just got way cool.
