The $300 Hair Dryer That Just Might Be Worth It

I'm just going to get it out of the way up front: This story is about a hair dryer that costs $300. Three hundred dollars is not cheap. There. Now that we've established that fact, let's move on and talk about why this might be the last dryer you ever buy. (Because, no joke, it truly could be.)
First of all, a little context on the creator of this dryer, Harry Josh. Editors and celebrities alike adore — and I mean adore — this stylist. His client list includes the Olsens and Helena Christensen, plus his good buddy Gisele Bündchen. The man does hair all day, every day, working so much that he typically burns through a blow dryer every month. (We're not talking cheapies, either — he uses top-of-the-line tools.)

Tired of going through so many dryers, Josh developed his own, and it's the cutest. Admittedly, it doesn't look like a powerhouse — it's a pretty mint green, and it's deceptively small. In fact, it's so petite that I initially thought it was a travel dryer. It's incredibly lightweight, too — but minute you turn it on, the motor blasts air at an insane 80 miles per hour. There's an optional ionic setting (for those days when you want a sleek look) and a cold-shot button that actually blows cool, not room-temperature, air. Handmade in France, the dryer has been tested so aggressively that there were actual drop tests to make sure it could stand up to real-life wear and tear. All this, and it uses 70 percent less energy than other dryers, making it green in more ways than one.

But, the proof is in the coiff, right? Even after hearing Josh enthuse over his "baby," I was unprepared for how quickly it transformed my blow-drying routine. I have fine hair, but there's a lot of it, and a thorough blow-dry usually takes 30 minutes. (Which, of course, means that I often avoid drying my hair, because who has time for that in the morning?) The first time I used the dryer, it cut my dry time in half. That's 15 minutes of my life that I did get back. Score.
Is Josh's dryer for everyone? Well, no — simply because, well, not everybody has $300 to drop on a dryer, even if it is the crème de la crème. But, in the immortal words of one Ferris Bueller, if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
