Prepare to show off your softer side, ladies. Burberry’s resort '14 collection just dropped and it is beautiful. Peppered with cashmere sweaters, lacework, and bows, the line moves away from the animalia looks of fall '13, in exploration of a more sophisticated, prim, and proper type of lady. And boy, do we want to be her.
The inspiration behind this collection stems from a series of vintage Helmut Newton photographs, and harks back to the days when fashion played by the rules — i.e. clothes flattered, cutaways were modest, and skirts cut below the knee. That said, the result is anything but dated. Modern pencil skirts show embossed floral prints, classic trenches feature abstract embellishment, and quirky colour pairings keep it all looking fresh. And don't worry: The lace pencil skirts will come with slips when they go on sale.
Brimming with elegance, the entire thing reads like a textbook on good taste — one that we need to get our hands on. Oh, and in much the same way the autumn/ winter collection used the beloved heart-print to underpin each and every look, resort uses clusters of glass beads — elegantly scattered over the elbows and collars of cashmeres and coats.
Ultimately, the overall look is very British. Christopher Bailey’s commitment to our country is endearing, and these pieces are a total testament to that. So, what we're saying is, it looks good and it does good too.
Burberry, Bailey, you've done it again.
