Beat The S.F. Heat At This Week's Coolest Shindigs!

main
Sure, your plans for this heat wave might have consisted of slurping popsicles porch-side and sneaking in an hour of sunbathing or two, but that was before your kind friends at R29 S.F. gave you the low-down on the week's soiree circuit! It's never too sweltering for a ladies night at Mira Mira or a Creative Growth art opening reception, so we’ve rounded up the Bay’s best happenings that are definitely worth letting those popsicles melt.

Creative Growth Art Opening Reception
Our love for all things Erica Tanov is well-known, but a chance to peek into the designer's source of inspiration for her spring and summer ’13 collection will take our affection to new heights. Creative Growth's latest opening reception, which benefits artists with disabilities, will feature beautiful art and clothing — and if you happen to fall head over heels, a selection of the pieces can be yours to take home. Add on some Duende-catered noshes, vino courtesy of Kermit Lynch, and tunes by Steven Emerson, and we know exactly where we'll be come Friday night!
When: Friday, April 26, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Erica Tanov, 1827 Fourth Street (at Hearst Avenue) Berkeley; 510-849-3331.
Pickwick & Weller T-Shirts After Work
Call us creatures of comfort, but we're such suckers for a classic T-shirt. SoCal-based Pickwick & Weller (co-founded by S.F. entrepreneurs and Steve Jobs impersonator, Ashton Kutcher) is making just that! To see what all this shirt talk is about, come celebrate the summer ’13 launch with the peeps behind the line this Thursday. Did we mention the open bar and product giveaway?! (Yup, we know got ya there.)
When: Thursday, April 25, 7 p.m.
Where: Gallery 16, 501 Third Street (between Bryant Street and Taber Alley); 415-626-7495.
RSVP: here!
SFMOMA Jewelry Trunk Show
We're just going to come out and say it — we are total SFMOMA addicts. Whether it's the always-inspiring collection of work, or the pastry selection at Blue Bottle’s rooftop spot, we are always happy to get our inner art critic on. Its yearly trunk show happens to be one of our must-hit events, and this year in particular, we are dying to get our hands on one local jewelry designer's trinkets. Vanessa Gade’s unique and S.F.-centric pieces have caught our eye, big time, and we can't wait to layer on the gems come Saturday.
When: Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: SFMOMA, The Schwab Room, 151 Third Street (between Mission and Howard streets); 415-357-4000.
The Garage Pop-Up Grand Opening
We already have a soft spot for indie-design collectives, but the idea behind the Marin pop-up retail space The Garage takes it to another level. Fairfax-based artisans Krissy Teegerstrom and Michele Schwartz set out to "create a space that's charming and fun, where you can walk in and find unique, handmade items with a personal touch," as Schwartz puts it. Sounds good to us! Repurposing a '60s era garage is no small feat, but these ladies teamed up with a bevy of local vendors to bring the shop to life. Come celebrate the grand opening this Saturday with plenty of nibbles, tunes, organic tea tastings, and handmade pieces galore.
When: Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: The Garage, 2000 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard (at Claus Drive) Fairfax; 415-846-1713.
Ladies Night at Mira Mira
If you're a loyal Mira Mira devotee, you've probably gazed longingly at some stunning Sheila B. bips and bops at the Mission shop a few times in your life. Her pieces are rooted in both the natural and mystical, and incorporate various elements — from fossils and bones to feathers and precious metals. Come join in on the ladies' night festivities, including specialty cocktails, treats, and 15% off everything in the shop — and ogle Sheila B.’s gorgeous bijous, of course!
When: Wednesday, April 24, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Mira Mira, 3992 22nd Street (at Valencia Street); 415-648-6513.

Warby Parker Pop-Up
So, we know the awesome eyewear folks at Warby Parker are currently touring about town in their funky school bus, and we know Aether epitomizes coolness. But the two together? That's right, Warby Parker and Aether are teaming up for an evening of bliss shopping. We couldn't think of two better designers to join forces.
When: Wednesday, April 24, 5 to 8 p.m.
Where: Aether, 489 Hayes Street (at Octavia Street); 415-437-2345.
