Vena Cava In Town & More Weekly Happenings!

comments

main While the “Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That” video and its subsequent memes are splitting sides all over the Internet (seriously, google it), the funny phrase doesn’t apply to these awesome shindigs! If anything, you’ll be readjusting your schedules to make time to attend these happenings. See what we mean by perusing the list below, and step away from the online memes and gifs long enough to have some IRL fun!

It’s baaack! The 2013 competition that crowns one fella the title of Mr. Marina is going down tonight! And whether or not you love or hate the hood, it's unanimous the cause is one to cheer about, as ticket proceeds benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Let the best man win!

How could you miss the two-year anniversary party of Hayes Valley shop Rand + Statler, hosted by none other than the cool ladies of Vena Cava and yours truly from R29 S.F.? With a playlist curated by the designers, quirky nail art, a fun photo booth, free booze and treats, and other surprises, you could call it the must-hit shindig of the season. See you there!

Erica Tanov Book Signing
We admit we’re guilty of judging books by their covers from time to time. But when a stellar local fashion brand presents us with a new tome, let’s just say we’re more than eager to crack open its spine. So, if you're into store-party-hopping this Thursday, Erica Tanov is hosting journalist Alison Singh Gee, who’ll be signing her memoir Where the Peacocks Sing, which sounds like a major page-turner! And it turns out fashion and the literary world blend well together, since the shop will be dishing out discounts at up to 15% off!
When: Thursday, March 21, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Erica Tanov, 2408 Fillmore Street (at Washington Street); 415-674-1228.

Off The Grid Kick Off
We could name a boatload of awesome things that come with rising temps, and one of them would undoubtedly be outdoor food-truck grub! The best in mobile fodder are starting their engines this Friday to kick off Fort Mason’s Off The Grid. In addition to our old-time favorites, a whopping 13 new vendors will be pulling up, too! If that wasn’t buzz-worthy enough, you can also sip cocktails and brews from The Alembic and Magnolia. We think a much needed “welcome back," is in order, no?
When: Friday, March 22, 5 to 10 p.m.
Where: Fort Mason Center, Marina Boulevard (near Laguna Street); 415-345-7500.

The She's Show
There’s something therapeutic about seeing an awesome band live in the flesh and getting lost in the tunes. The local all-girl surf pop band, The She’s, will be playing its popular tunes like "Running" and "Hey Boy" this Friday, helping us let loose and jump start the weekend off right. Suddenly, Pandora just won’t cut it.
When: Friday, March 22, 9 p.m.
Where: Milk Bar, 1840 Haight Street (between Shrader and Stanyan streets); 415-387-6455.
Cost: $10; tickets at the door.

Bold Italic Spring Fling
For the most part, high school is a place never worth revisiting — unless, of course it’s a spring fling! Enter The Bold Italic's adult version of the dance this Saturday. The soirée has a strict fancy-pants dress code to abide by, but we think donning the threads to cut a rug on the dance floor will be worth suiting up for.
When: Saturday, March 23, 8 p.m.
Where: The Verdi Club, 2424 Mariposa Street (between Hampshire Street and Portrero Avenue); 415-861-9199.
Cost: $40; buy tickets here!
