It's Chanel's Universe, & We're All Just Living In It

With who-knows-how-many projects he's working on, collections twice the size of most working designers, and a brand presence so big and recognizable it's oftentimes said in the same breath as McDonald's and Coca Cola, it can seem sometimes that Chanel — and more specifically, Karl Lagerfeld — is carrying the world's weight on his shoulders. But don't get Karl wrong — he's not a browbeating Atlas. There's no struggle.

In fact, Karl's recent fall 2013 collection for Chanel seemed as mind-numbingly easy as an episode of As The World Turns. The styling was simple, the shapes conventional, and the pieces extremely wearable (tweedy blazers, flippy skirts, knee-high boots, and mullet hemlines have already proved their commerciality, many times over). What may have not worked so well were the thigh-high textured leg warmers and the turned-up, turned-out coat hems that felt more accidental than deliberately deconstructed.

With one nod to the ultimate space queen (apparently, it was Anna Wintour's bob that inspired the fuzzy headgear), the collection wrapped at lightning speed, leaving only a giant globe dotted with hundreds of flags, signifying all of Chanel's global shops. How about that? If you liked what you saw, Karl even thought to show you how to find it on a map...
