Teengirl Fantasy, Laurel Halo, Kelela, Fatherhood: (le) Poisson Rouge, February 14, $12
What better way to spend Valentine's Day than dancing and/or zoning out to some of the best experimental electronic music around? Headliners Teengirl Fantasy specialize in psychedelic analog house, while Laurel Halo's hypnagogic pop sounds like it comes from another world entirely.
Thursday, February 14, 10 pm, (le) Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street (between Thompson and Sullivan streets); 212-353-3474.
Ex Cops: Mercury Lounge, February 15, $10
NYC's Ex Cops is made up of Brian Harding (ex-Hymns) and Amalie Bruun (formerly of Minks, and current solo artist) who have teamed up to make hazy indie-pop in the vein of Wild Nothing and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. Its live show should please anyone who likes wide-eyed singalongs and immediately catchy choruses.
Friday, February 15, Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street (between Essex and Ludlow streets); 212-260-4700.
