Fashion Week, at its core, is very much about looking forward. What's going to be new, next, and amazing is what everyone wants to know. Sadly, we don't always stop to appreciate what's happening in the moment (and how it all came together). Thanks to the hard-working team at MAC, whose army of artists and PR reps are the unofficial beauty mascots of NYFW, we now know exactly what goes into producing Fashion Month for a beauty brand. It's crazy, y'all.

We weren't too surprised to learn that at least two MAC senior artists have served as relationship counselors while on the job, one going so far as to compose a scathing email for a poor girl whose boyfriend was sleeping around on her. However, we were pretty taken aback to learn that the average amount of caffeinated beverages an artist drinks is a measly two to four — they're all usually so infuriatingly chipper at the 6:45 a.m. call times that we assumed they must have IVs of espresso between shows. We call BS on that one.

Read on for some of the most surprising factoids about these overachievers — and if you're backstage at all this season, make sure you give a makeup artist (and a stylist, and a nail artist) a hug. It looks like they need it.

Number of major shows MAC does makeup for: 120+
Number of models worked with throughout Fashion Month: 4700+
Number of hours logged: 7300+
Number of false lashes ordered: 439
Average number of cabs they hail per day: 6
Average weight in pounds of each senior artist's kit: 50
Average number of hours artists sleep each night: 5
