Ever wonder what super-successful (and super-tiny) women like designer Kelly Wearstler actually eat to stay that thin? Well, according to Wearstler's recent interview with Bon Appétit, the answer is...not much. Despite grueling 5:30 a.m., seven-days-a-week workouts, Wearstler subsists on nothing more than pressed green juices (oh, and a skim macchiato) until dinnertime, with possibly some almonds and granola thrown in there. Possibly.
We have to say that, upon reading Wearstler's interview (which is not yet available online, meaning you'll have to pick up a copy and read it the old-fashioned way), it gave us major pause. Why? Because it's Bon Appétit — which implies appetite, which implies, you know, food. It's obvious to the reader that the reporter who interviewed her was surprised by her juice-only daytime schedule ("What about real, solid food?"), which Wearstler claims increases her energy levels.
While Wearstler does cop to eating a full dinner with her family every night, we admit that our first reaction is concern for Wearstler's well-being. Fresh-pressed juices can certainly be a healthy part of a balanced diet, but on their own, they lack protein, fiber, and other essential nutrients. We appreciate Wearstler's frankness about her eating habits (if we hear one more minuscule celeb claim that they ate a burrito before a photo shoot, we will scream), but we also can't say that we're totally on board with a diet this extreme, especially over a long period of time.
