Not everyone gravitates toward the "hair hat" look (seen here on Thandie Newton), but we love this throwback style for its ability to make a major statement while also being curl-friendly. "Create this '40s-inspired look by gently fluffing dry curls for frizz-free volume. This will give you great polished, defined ringlets," says Dickey. "Next, create a deep side part. On the lowest side, smooth hair back and around to the opposite front hair line and secure with a ponytail holder.
"The next step is to secure the end of the fat curly ponytail with another ponytail holder. Next, form a bun by folding the ponytail and tucking the ends into base; pin as you go with bobby pins. The great thing about a big curly bun is that you can make it any shape you like!" If you're feeling daring on New Year's Eve, go for it — we can guarantee that you'll stand out in a good way!
