The Biggest & Baddest Lineup Of S.F. Events — Hands Down!

main
If you had plans to skip town this week, this jam-packed lineup of insanely rad happenings might convince you to start unpacking those bags. From a luxe designer bazaar and a bevy of crazy-cool pop-up shops to festive holiday bashes and melt-your-heart fundraisers, this roundup of poppin’ events ensures the last month of the year goes out with a major bang. After a week like this, the holidays will start to look a lot less glitzy in comparison.
Crimson Mim Gift Wrapping Party
We can’t be the only ones who’ve seemingly attacked presents with some tape and paper … with embarrassing results. Now, we can become wrap stars thanks to Crimson Mim’s gift-wrapping party. The shop will be teaching a slew of fancy pressie decorating techniques to make us pass as one of Santa’s elves this holiday season. Once your parcel is decorated, you get to unwrap a gift from Crimson Mim, too.
When: Los Altos: Wednesday, December 5, at 2, 4, and 6 p.m., Palo Alto: Thursday, December 6, at 2, 4, and 6 p.m.
Where: Crimson Mim, 322 Main Street (between 1st and 2nd streets); 650-947-7463, and El Camino Real, Suite 35 (near Stanford Avenue), Palo Alto; 650-323-2277.
Asterisk Pop-Up Shops
It’s pretty common for a standout pop-up shop to make us giddy, but the fun usually ends as quickly as it came. At this upcoming Anaïse, Lofti, and Chris Koehler shindig, we can actually get our hands on the threads, kicks, and paper goods throughout the entire weekend. Long live the goodies!
When: Thursday, December 6 to Sunday, December 9, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Asterisk Magazine, 3156 24th Street (at Shotwell Street); 415-839-9707.
Hawthorn Winter Revelry
We have a pretty serious fashion crush on all things Ali Golden. So, we're doing backflips now that we can get our hands on some exclusive pieces this Thursday! Head over to Hawthorn and score the designer’s latest dip-dyed bags (um, more like we die!), scarf down some cupcakes, and wash them down with refreshing libations. We’re not sure which will be stronger, the sugar or fashion high, but we’re eager to find out!
When: Thursday, December 6, 5 to 8 p.m.
Where: Hawthorn Boutique, 5854 College Avenue (at Chabot Road), Oakland; 510-594-8380.
Jingle & Mingle Fundraiser
All these roundups of covetable stuff can hypnotize us into forgetting what the holidays are really about: giving! Now that we’ve reminded you, direct your philanthropic attention to this stellar fundraiser bash. At Jingle & Mingle, take part in the designer wreath silent auction, grub on some tasty cocktails and fare, and bust a move on the dance floor — all for a good cause! Proceeds benefit Children of Shelters, and this event is bound to expand any heart that’s two sizes too small.
When: Thursday, December 6, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher Loop (near Infantry Terrace); 415-561-5444.
Cost: $200; Buy tickets here!
La Boutique Holiday Vendor Fair
Get ready to die and wake up in Parisian heaven. La Boutique L’Art et la Mode and The Bold Italic are throwing an ultra-extravagant European shopping rendevous that has us saying, “Sacré Bleu!” Featuring a dozen vendors from across the pond, we can shop the can’t-find-anywhere-else merch by grabbing our wallets, and leaving our passports at home. Très Magnifique!
When: Thursday, December 6, at 6 p.m. through Saturday, December 8, at 6 p.m.
Where: La Boutique L’Art et la Mode, 414 Jackson Street, Suite 101 (at Sansome Street); 415-693-9950.

Boots & Bourbon Happy Hour and Trunk Show
Bring along your beau and tap into your testosterone at this manly man’s soirée. The Brooklyn Circus will be pouring its finest bottle of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and its shelves will be lined with limited editions of Red Wing totes and boot socks. The shop will also be playing Santa by awarding special guests with exclusive giveaways. Even those who are all brawn know attending this event is a no-brainer!
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: The Brooklyn Circus, 1521 Fillmore Street (at Geary Boulevard); 415-359-1999.
North Beach Holiday Boutique Crawl
For those that don’t yet know North Beach is so much more than just ooey-gooey slices of pizza, this boutique crawl will teach you a thing or two. Make your way over to the hood and work your way through its lineup of shops like Annabella’s, Goorin Bros, and Park and Pond for some discounts. The latter will be dishing out 10% off art pieces, and tasty nibbles.
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: North Beach; check out all venues here!
Claflin, Thayer, & Co Weekend Shop
Sure, we’ve been able to shop Berkley-based Claflin, Thayer, & Co’s rustic leather goods with the click of a mouse, but we’re still old-fashioned enough to prefer shopping in-store. For this weekend only, the leather crafters will be settling between the likes of Ali Golden and Esqueleto, for us to shop its latest pieces at Temescal Alley. An event like this is bound to turn us into alley cats.
When: Friday, December 7, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. to Sunday, December 9, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: 470G 49th Street (between Telegraph and Clark streets), Oakland. No phone.
Big Things Farewell Pop-Up Shop
Last year, we gave you an insider tour into artsy gal and e-commerce guru Rebecca Goldschmidt’s rad Oakland space. Well, now the pad will soon become vacant as the Big Things blogger and e-shop owner is making an equally big move. Say farewell to the soon-to-be Mexico resident at her last pop-up shop in the Bay. Mercy Vintage Now is hosting the goodbye bash for us to shop Big Things’ vintage threads, bijous, and treasures. We hope Kleenex will be at the ready, too!
When: Saturday, December 8, 4 to 8 p.m.
Where: Mercy Vintage Now, 4188 Piedmont Avenue (at Linda Avenue), Oakland; 510-654-5599.
Craft Faire
On the hunt for locally made giftables? This upcoming Craft Faire is the motherlode of indie finds. With over a dozen local vendors to arrive on the scene, you can shop everything from horticultural arrangements to hand-spun ceramics, while wolfing down fare by Boffo Cart. Happy hunting!
When: Saturday, December 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: SubRosa Coffee, 419 40th Street (at Webster Street), Oakland; 510-740-8020.
Kronner Burger Party
If all the holiday shopping leaves your belly rumbling for some mouth-watering bites, we suggest you refuel at this burger party. Kronner Burger will be sizzling juicy patties on the grill this Monday only at Bar Tartine. The feast will keep your conscience as satisfied as your stomach, since the event supports the Conductive Learning Center, which aids children with disabilities. You can win some sweet prizes, too. Unionmade gift card? Don't mind if we do.
When: Monday, December 10, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Bar Tartine, 561 Valencia Street (at 17th Street); 415-487-1600.
