This Size-4 Wedding Dress Weighs 400 Pounds

Sure, every bride wants her wedding gown to be special and unique. But, we’re betting nobody — not even the most demanding of bridezillas — has requested a dress quite as extravagant as this one. Minnesota artist Gail Be has spent the last three years carefully sewing a wedding dress with over one million tiny beads, and the result is pretty jaw-dropping.
The “Fantasy” gown is crafted from 500,000 glass pearls and more than 400,000 crystals, complete with a sweeping, 20-foot train that covers the floor of an entire room. But, the wearer of this dress doesn’t only have to worry about people stepping on it (obviously a major concern); considering the size-4 dress weighs 400 lbs., another issue is the wearer's inability to move at all. One of the models who wore the dress told Minnesota’s Star Tribune, “It hurt, and I couldn’t move, but I felt like a fairy-tale princess.”
Even though the gown makes it impossible to perform basic bridal functions — cutting a cake, dancing, or even walking down an aisle — Be (who’s also made beaded creations for Lady Gaga) says that’s not the point. Rather, she and the 23 other women who helped create the dress are hoping to showcase “Fantasy” in a Hollywood film or maybe on the red carpet. Just don't ask her how even the most skilled actress is supposed to walk in it. “My spiritual calling was to build this dress, and that’s what I did. How it’s going to move is none of my business,” she said. Okay then. (Star Tribune)
