Pencil In These 5 Rad Events Happening This Week

main
Now that you’ve got your patriotic duty out of the way, it’s time to have some post-election fun. And we are giving major props to these stellar events happening this week. From a trunk show full of indie designer bops to a beer showdown to chugalug at, these events certainly have our vote! Scour the list below and pledge allegiance to whichever you think is the raddest of the bunch.
Bevel x Calivintage Trunk Show
As fashion lovers in this techie city, we can’t help but get excited when the two worlds collide harmoniously. Today, the newly launched trunk-show site Bevel partnered with local blogger Calivintage to host its first ever fashion shindig full of glitzy trinkets by indie designers. Want in? Head over to Bevel, click through a short demo, and when prompted for the access code, enter “SF03.” Then, you can hit the Jackson Square event to receive a free gift from Cynthia Rowley (swoon!), and have Bevel charm the pants off you.
When: Wednesday, November 7, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: La Boutique L’Art et La Mode, 414 Jackson Street, Suite 101 (at Sansome Street); 415-693-9950.
Women of Style & Substance Fashion Fundraiser
If there’s ever a way to avoid shopper’s remorse during the holiday season, it’s when your spending excursions benefit a charity. And you can do precisely that by participating in the Women of Style & Substance fashion fundraiser this Thursday. By shopping new threads from California-based shops like Band of Outsiders, Dosa, and more, you directly benefit WomanCare Global, an organization supporting a woman's right to reproductive choice. We can’t think of a better way to wind up on Santa’s “nice” list.
When: Thursday, November 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Hedge Gallery, 501 Pacific Avenue (at Montgomery Street); 415-433-2233.
The Grand Transformation
There’s something about passing by luxe window displays on a chilly day that feels oh-so-festive, and finally somebody has caught on to the holiday tradition. Berkeley’s Castle In The Air will be unveiling its whimsical displays this Friday, while spectators get to sip soothing cups of cider or bubbles and munch away on yummy bites. What’s even sweeter than the treats? A 25% discount on almost all the shop's merch! Now that’s the type of season’s greetings we’re into!
When: Friday, November 9, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Castle In The Air, 1805 Fourth Street (between Delaware Street and Hearst Avenue); 510-204-9801.
From Ales To Fromage
The fued between Biggie and Tupac may be over (RIP!) but the battle between the East and West Coast is still going strong. At Public House's From Ales To Fromage, brew guzzlers get to act as refs in a battle between the coasts’ different beers. Get a taste of what each side is pouring out, and let the best coast win!
When: Thursday, November 8, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Public House, 24 Willie Mays Plaza (at 3rd Street); 415-644-0240.
Cost: $60; Buy tickets here!
Marquee Salon Grand Opening Party & Market
While most grand openings last a couple of hours, the new-to-the-scene East Bay salon Marquee is having a weekend’s worth of soirées. First, celebrate the new spot for your locks with overflowing cocktails, Boffo Cart fare, and bumpin’ tunes. Then, take part in the salon’s next-day market, with pop-up shops featuring designers Serial Cultura, Heritage Mercantile, and more. Finally, proof that weekends truly are made for fun!
When: Grand Opening: Saturday, November 10, 7 to 10 p.m.; Market: Sunday, November 11, noon to 5 p.m. Where: Marquee Salon, 420 40th Street Suite 3 (at Webster Street), Oakland; 510-285-6679.
