It's Oct-Over! The Best End-Of-Month Events In San Francisco

main October may be coming to a close, but there are still plenty of fall happenings to keep us ringing in the season. And we’ve rounded up the most standout shindigs that go beyond your typical seasonal-drink sipping. Instead, expect to find everything from rad art exhibits to a Day of the Dead boozefest to start the new month off right. Peep the list below and expect to reach the top of your Foursquare leader board in no time.

Light Fiction Exhibit
For those who light up at the thought of nature, this event was practically made for you. In fact, the wooden art pieces made by Anzfer Farms literally flicker with a radiant glow. And there’s a certain beauty found when nature takes it course on our manmade devices, which can be seen in the exhibit’s jewels by Japanese designer Liisa Hashimoto. Her decaying bips and bops will be on display to demonstrate the element’s ruining effects.
When: Now through Friday, November 30, noon to 6 p.m.
Where: Shibumi Studio and Gallery, 1402 Fifth Street (at Berry Street); 510-528-7736.

This Is My World Exhibit
In a world where everything is seemingly created on a computer program, it’s nice to know people are still making things sans a mouse and keyboard. And at Rare Device’s latest exhibit, we get to see handmade zines, books, lettering, and patterns created by local artist Lisa Congdon. Ring in the pieces at the opening reception this Friday, and see some non-Photoshopped designs for a change!
When: Friday, November 2, 6 p.m.
Where: Rare Device, 600 Divisadero Street (at Hayes Street); 415-863-3969.

Camilla Olson Tiffany & Co Fashion Lunch
As much as we love dressing in urban getups found off the racks at thrift shops, we often find ourselves ogling shiny new luxury designs, too. And at this fancy-pants fashion lunch, we get to peep the crème de le crème of lavishness. The latest trinkets by Tiffany and Co. will be on display, as well as Camilla Olson’s fall collection, while we enjoy a three-course Italian dinner from Quattro. We’re not quite sure which we’re drooling for most!
When: Saturday, November 3, 11:30 a.m.
Where: Four Seasons Hotel, 2050 University Avenue (near Manhattan Avenue), Palo Alto; 650-566-1200.
Price: $37

Hello! Lucky Open House
Every time we receive one of Hello! Lucky’s super-cute cards, we can’t help but want to jump right into it, Blue’s Clues style. And while that realistically isn’t an option, we found a pretty cool alternative. The stationary line’s factory is opening its doors this Sunday! There, we get to learn its letter-pressing techniques and score majors deals off holiday cards and wrapping paper — so we’re fully prepared for the gift-giving season, while still feeling a little spoiled ourselves.
When: Sunday, November 4, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Hello! Lucky, 977 Howard Street (between 5th and 6th streets); 415-355-0008.

Espolón Day of the Dead Pub Crawl
To celebrate the dead, it’s a common ritual to pour out a liquor in their memory. Now you can up the ante by partaking in Espolón’s Day of the Dead bar crawl. The Mission drinking adventure will have you knocking back libations from Doc’s Clock all the way to Elbow Room. And it’s hard to imagine a better way to feel connected to the dead than by gulping down some spirits.
When: Friday, November 2, 8 p.m. to midnight.
Where: Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Bar, 2323 Mission Street (between 19th and 20th streets); 415-285-2380.
