Taking what he'd started at Marc Jacobs and running with it, Jacobs continued his '60s obsession with three basic motifs: a color palette of greens, yellows, whites, and blacks; checks and their monochrome complement; jacket-and-skirt or pantsuit sets.
If it seems repetitive, it was — but only in the most genius way possible. Like minimalist music, which the entire show was set to, the seemingly simple looks culminated in something grand — each look was a tiny additive cell in Jacobs' consonant harmony. That, and the shifting, shimmering mirrored panels that rotated throughout, hypnotizing as it also mesmerized. The final walk-through had the models appearing from a long escalator, as if they had descended upon us from somewhere up high. It was fashion heaven.
