With a front row to end all front rows (Kate Moss, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Alber Elbaz, and Riccardo Tisci, to name a few), Hedi Slimane's debut show for the newly minted Saint Laurent was the Paris Fashion Week invite everyone wanted to get their paws on. And rightfully so — the collection, with bewitching hints of Stevie Nicks, referenced a slew of YSL's iconic styles ... with a twist. The safari and smoking jackets both received modern updates, while sleek menswear-inspired suits and plunging necklines with crisscross laces were additional homages to the late, great Yves and his legendary styles.

Of course, Twitter was blaze with conflicting reviews: While some adored Slimane's new direction, others thought it lacked an edge that the brand was in need of. Either way, it's clear that the French designer was influenced by his new home: Los Angeles. Although he's a Beverly Hills boy now, Slimane's spring '13 collection could easily be a blend of Sunset Boulevard and Topanga Canyon — especially with the addition of those wide-brim hats! We're thinking this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Slimane's Cali-infused duds. Take a peek at our picks for the crème de la crème from this morning's show — we can't wait to see which mag features those capes first!
