Inspired by the creative worlds of contrasting artists Josef Albers and Niki de Saint Phalle, Roksanda Ilincic’s spring ’13 show was full of blocked colors, high contrasts, and juxtaposed textures. Showcasing the collection in a rococo ballroom at the lavish Savoy hotel, Anna Wintour sat up front, peeping through her signature sunnies, along with Grazia style director Paula Reed, and Agyness Deyn.

Stomping to the beat of a bossa-nova soundtrack, models took to the runway channelling ‘70s femme and girly sport-luxe — cue bell sleeves, billowing pants, and ankle-skimming hemlines. Curvilinear shapes became geometric shift dresses, marl jersey midi dresses sported oversized collars, and saccharine trousers paired with shell tops to stand-out effect.

Elsewhere, we saw slim-cut day dresses, tiered maxi skirts, and draped open backs for a shot of elegance. Colors reflected a retro palette — rose, mustard, terracotta, and Yves Klein blue — on a timeless monochrome base tying the collection together. On the accessories front, oversized clutch bags, padded bows, and color-blocked shoes (oh, the shoes!) kept things modern.

Like we said, it was a stylish lesson in art history. Click through for our favorite looks.
