Juggling Act: Christina Caradona Does It All With Killer Style

The first time we visited Trop Rouge we were hooked. Anchored by a sexy-minimalist style, and the absolutely mind-blowing hair of creator Christina Caradona, the blog's picture-perfect images of sunny park picnics and fashionable friends had us coming back every morning thereafter. But, as effortless as all that beauty looks, the model-blogger-actress behind it isn't taking it easy. She wakes at dawn to run her super-successful blog, hits model castings all afternoon, then shoots her upcoming Nickelodeon show ‘til most of us are at last call. It’s a schedule that would make our heads spin — but Christina manages to do it all with an enviable grace.
We grabbed the wild-haired beauty for a few precious moments to chat about working hard, staying inspired, and how to look awesome while tackling your to-dos. With a little vintage here and a few favorites from Kenneth Cole Collection’s polished/punk fall line there, Christina showed us how a complete, chic wardrobe for the ambitious urbanite doesn't require hours of effort.

You work a lot of unconventional gigs! Have you ever had a ‘normal’ job?
"When I was 16, I worked at a Billabong [store] in Biarritz, France — right on the ocean with an amazing view. Working retail taught me how strange people are. It also taught me how to keep things neat — my manager made me clean like mad!"
Did you always know you wanted to act and model?
"I was set on being a lawyer, actually. But, my parents were so supportive — they just wanted me to do whatever made me happy. Growing up, I surfed a lot. I honestly believe that if one day I woke up and said I want to be a pro surfer, they would have been like, 'sounds great!'"
Who inspired your work ethic?
"My mother was a model and is the strongest, hardest-working person I’ve ever known (but I’m a lot more organized than she is!)"
Kenneth Cole Collection Tres A Charm Bootie, $240, available at Kenneth Cole
When, and how did you realize you were good at what you do?
"To tell the truth, I still feel like I'm learning! I started to love modeling when I saw that I could help my parents out with the money I was making — and save up and move out of their house, too. Also, being able to travel and meet so many people is amazing."
What do you love most about New York?
"I was born in New York, moved to France when I was 8, then moved back to New York at 18. I was so intimidated because I wasn’t used to being in such a big city. But, I love it here now — everyone is so driven and hard-working. The energy is just incredible."
What’s an average workday like for you? How do you juggle it all?
"I wake at 7 a.m., work on Trop Rouge, dart out the door for an 11 a.m. meeting, lunch with friends in SoHo, spend the afternoon previewing new collections and going to castings. By 5 p.m., I’m on set at Nickelodeon. Sometimes, we don’t wrap until 4 a.m. the next day! I lead an extremely fast life, but it suits me. I always bring my computer wherever I go in case I get downtime — and, I just keep working."
Kenneth Cole Collection Open Stitch Sweater, $89.50, available at Kenneth Cole.
Kenneth Cole Collection Tech-Fabric Skirt, $89.50, available at Kenneth Cole.
What's your creative mantra?
"Try to live outside your comfort zone, remain bold, and work hard!"
Hands down, what’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
"My mom always told me, 'Do what makes you happy and surround yourself with people smarter than you. And, never take yourself seriously — life’s too short to forget to laugh!'"
What are your long-term goals?
"I want to continue acting and inspiring others — and keep boosting curly-hair confidence!"
Got any professional advice you'd like to share?
"Do what makes you happy and surround yourself with positive, ambitious people — good energy feeds off each other. Those are clichés, but they’re so true!"
