Carine Roitfeld Is Surprisingly Down-To-Earth (& Has A Ry-Gos Crush)

As the abdicated queen of Vogue Paris, and now the almost-eponymous CR, Carine Roitfeld hasn’t let age get in the way of sexiness. The self-titled Joan of Arc of fashion talks to a reporter in a black negligee and Kiki de Montparnasse robe, with smudged kohl liner for added sex appeal. It's a look she describes as porno-chic, not surprising for someone whose editorials constantly push the NSFW barriers. Yet according to her interview with The Telegraph , she remains surprisingly down-to-earth. She will happily pee behind a car, and, like the rest of us, admits to a standard Ryan Gosling fetish. Nevertheless, thanks to the influx of blogs and street-style photogs capturing her artful ensembles and wolfish front row stares, we can’t help but be a little bit scared.

Roitfeld is —to many— the intimidating dame in the world of Parisian fashion (and now, likely NYC — as we've told you before, her office is directly across the street from R29's HQ). Cited as a “nymphomaniac," the supposed foil of Anna Wintour, and BFF to Karl Lagerfeld, you wouldn't necessarily jump to call her maternal. But that's not how she sees it. "I have always been more of a mummy than an editor. I speak to my children every day. We are a very compact family. For me they are the most important and they know that. I never fly away because of that, always with my feet on earth.”

With the debut of her magazine this year, a collaboration with Mac Cosmetics, and her book, Irreverent still flying off the shelves, Roitfeld continues to take the speed of the fashion world well within her stride. And, more importantly, in her own way. “It is a lot of pressure that I put on myself. I could live very quietly, do advertising to earn money…. The last Joan of Arc of fashion - it will be me.” Carine, darling, nous t’aimons. Read on for more reasons to love this vixen-mother-editor-design inspiration. (The Telegraph)
