Vamp

When someone says Chanel, this shade is most likely the first one that pops into your head. The perfect blackened red, we've seen it crop up everywhere from runways to red carpets, not to mention in pretty much every makeup bag we've ever sneaked a peek inside.

Launched way back when in 1994, Vamp was created to mimic the effect of dried blood — the rouge noir shade was a divergence from the usual bold reds on the market at the time. It was also worn by Uma Thurman's character in Pulp Fiction. Predictably, the shade flew off of the shelves, but was discontinued later. Thankfully, Chanel recognized the error of its ways and reintroduced it in 2000, where it has been a part of the lacquer line-up ever since.
