Billy Elliot at the L.A. Pantages Theatre
If you’re like us, and burnt out on the excessive Coachella coverage, we recommend enjoying some tunes of a different sort. Billy Elliot the musical (based on the 2000 film) is hitting the Pantages Theatre, and with music by Elton John, we’re sure it’s going to be a moving show. Snatch up tickets soon though; a hit like this will sell out.
When: Tuesday, April 24 to Wednesday, May 16
Where: Pantages Theatre, 6233 Hollywood Boulevard (at Argyle Avenue); 323-468-1770.
Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash
Fact: Our weekends aren’t complete without a little retail therapy. Well, Sassy City Chicks is ready to assist with mid-week spending habits as well. The massive trunk show opens its doors on Thursday, and costs only 10 bucks for entrance. The bang for those bucks? Plentiful amounts of booze and oodles of pretty garb will be on site. We’ll definitely catch you there.
When: Thursday, April 26, 5 to 10 p.m.
Where: The Petersen Automotive Museum, 6060 Wilshire Boulevard (at South Orange Grove Avenue); 323-964-6356.
Los Angeles Comedy Fest
Get your LOL on with the one of the largest comedy displays in the nation. The L.A. comedy fest is in full swing this week, and catching a show before it closes up shop is a must — you can choose from web, screenplay, and live acts — you name it. There really is an array of hilarious hijinks going down, so we suggest peeping the schedule to find the perfect show to suit your fancy.
When: Through April 26, Times Vary
Where: Theatre Asylum, 6320 Santa Monica Boulevard (at Lillian Way); 323-962-1632.
Grilled Cheese Invitational
We’re not gonna lie: We’ll take a grilled cheese at any time, on any day. It’s that one indulgence we can’t (or won’t) ever give up. And the fact that there is a whole fest dedicated to this cheesy lunch choice — is just, well, beyond. You’ll know where to find us next Saturday, that's for sure!
When: Saturday, April 28, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: The Rose Bowl, 1001 Rose Bowl Drive Lot K, Pasadena; 323-560-7469.
Vintage Clothing and Textile Show
Vintage aficionados, listen up. This event (now in its 29th year), is the one-stop shop for hard-to-find, high-fashion finds. The gorgeous selection of fabric, jewelry, and bric-a-brac you’ll find here is unreal, and it truly is an amazing time. Whether you're on the hunt to buy, or just want to soak in some inspiration — this retro shindig is one to hit.
