It’s Official: Uniqlo Is Coming To Powell Street!

uniqlo
Remember back in September when we spilled the beans about the much-anticpiated Uniqlo location opening in S.F.? Well, start making your mental wish list, peeps, because the minimalist Japanese brand is officially gearing up for a landing in our fair city — in none other than S.F.'s shopping oasis, Union Square. That’s right, the wait is (almost) over, 'cause Uniqlo's has officially inked a deal on its new digs. Meaning: We're getting closer!

According to
WWD
, a 29,000-square-foot lease at 111 Powell Street has been signed by the cult-followed brand, which is in the throws of a multi-city expansion plan, kicking off in good ol' S.F. And, as a little Google Maps research shows, that means Uniqlo will be replacing the sprawling DSW Shoe Warehouse, which currently sits across the street from H&M's S.F. flagship.

"It’s the center of innovation, hi-tech, and software," Yasunobu Kyogoku, the company’s COO explained to WWD of his decision to make S.F. the first U.S. city outside of NYC to get a Uniqlo boutique (NY has three and counting). “It’s very important for us to be present in that market in a big way.”
Plus, it seems that Uniqlo is not only opening up shop in S.F., but the company will also house all West Coast operations here, as well (um, office tour, anyone?!). It's all a part of a larger vision of the company to amp up recognition out west and open hundreds of stores across the country — including multiple shops in each market — which will in turn help the company hit its goal of $10 billion in North American sales by 2020.
Trust we'll keep you abreast of the opening date of this Powell Street mecca as soon as we know it. Until then, start practicing your squeals of joy.
