Surfers might be protective of their turf, but they're more than willing to share their best beauty tips. And, lucky for us, these super-athletes (who endure heat, salt, sand, sweat, and 40-foot waves) have got a lot of them.
We've reported on the hair products that they swear by for naturally tousled, beachy waves. (Hint: It's not salt spray.) And now, our favorite female pro surfers are dishing the skin-care regimes that keep their faces and bodies from frying as they tear up the tides — including the SPF formulas that actually hold up.
We talked to eight surfing pros for the low-down on the tried-and-true sunscreens that will stay on skin all day, and won’t clog your pores. So even if you’re just lounging in your beach chair, at least your skin protection will be as badass as those hanging ten.

"Some sunscreens can turn white on you, and I don't really like that look," says Quizon. "The deep tint of this formula matches my skin tone—and it actually makes me look more bronze, which is a plus."

She also trusts Clarins Body Lotion for healing her dry skin when she's out of the water.

Conlogue's pick for waterproof sunscreen is from SurfMud, an all-natural, organic beauty brand. She tells us, "It goes on looking like a foundation — plus, it withstands the ocean waves and keeps me from getting burnt."

To save her skin after a long day on the board, Conlogue loves bathing in Epsom Salts and lathering on Vaseline's Intensive Care Body Lotion.

Also a proponent of all-natural sunscreen, the surfer, blogger, and ocean activist raves about Australian brand, UV Natural. She tells Refinery29: "It's amazing — and it's all organic. I'm really particular, and I seriously won't wear any other sunscreen."

Palmateer keeps it all-natural out of the water too, using Kopari's coconut oil on her skin and hair.

"I use a lot of Shiseido sunscreen," says Hill. "The brand has BB creams and moisturizers that are high in SPF. Before hitting the water, I always brush on the compact foundation — it's a powder formulated with zinc."

Post-surf, the Australian surfer believes in a good facial-cleansing routine, including Origin's black charcoal mask. Plus she tells us, she uses Blistex to combat chapped, beach-worn lips.
