What 3 Soothsayers See In America's Future — & What They Think We Should Do

On the day of Donald Trump's inauguration, we can't help but wonder: What comes next? What do the next four years really have in store for Americans?

Since we haven't quite finished our psychic intuition training, we turned to three soothsayers of different disciplines to give us a look into the future. Tali and Ophira Edut (also known as the AstroTwins), tarot card reader Theresa Reed, and lunary guide Vanessa Kunderman shared their visions of Trump's presidency with R29, and the takeaway across all of their readings is surprisingly clear.

Yes, there are challenges ahead of us, but they can also be seen as opportunities for adjustment and learning. As the soothsayers taught us, when you resist change, you have nowhere else to go. It's only when you accept that change has happened that you can determine your next step. We may not have an exact snapshot of what the country will look like in 2020, but thanks to these predictions, we have reason to be hopeful.

The AstroTwins, Astrologers

We are in the midst of a 16-year-long transformation, all thanks to Pluto moving through Capricorn, the ruling sign of governments, tradition, and patriarchal values. If you're just noticing the chaos now, this has been a long time coming.

The Twins explained that Pluto has the capacity to incite major spiritual change, but it has a dark side, too: "Pluto is also the ruler of the underworld: In order to make a lasting shift, we also have to see what’s hidden below the surface... Last year marked the halfway point of the Pluto cycle, so it makes sense that all the people resisting a new form of power would come out of the woodwork in full force."

But, despite Pluto's best efforts, we won't stay in the dark for long. The end of 2017 will see Saturn returning to its home sign, Capricorn, which will signal a major astrological gut-check.

"This three-year Saturn cycle, which lasts until December 18, 2020, may strengthen certain institutions and even create a more traditional environment in some cases," the Twins said. "However, the lying, cheating, narcissistic shenanigans will have to go."

Translation: The cat is home and playtime is over for the mice.

In the next couple years, you might feel a sudden urge to create — go with that feeling. Eclipses will hit the Aquarius/Leo axis from 2017 to 2019, and the Twins explained that this period "will bring a rise in activism and artistic expression... In fact, the populist Aquarius eclipses could see the red and blue states band together once Saturn is fully flowing through Capricorn in 2018."

A major dose of activist momentum is headed our way. It's simply up to us to be ready to run with it.

Of course, there's always more that the stars can tell us — find out all that they have in store for the year ahead with the AstroTwins’ 2017 Planetary Planner.

Theresa Reed, Tarot Card Reader

Reed cast a detailed tarot reading for Trump's inauguration and presidency, but here we're going to break down her interpretation of the overall tone of the next four years, for which she drew The Moon.

As Reed wrote, this card is known for "uncertainty, illusion, and fear." It's safe to say that that's how a lot of people feel about the future right now, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing — it actually may be an opportunity for positive change.

"We’re getting a chance to explore our shadow side as a country," Reed wrote. "While it’s possible that we may go through some dark days, we also have the opportunity to root out the core issues and begin healing on a deeper level."

There's work to be done, and it'll take time, but we shouldn't be daunted. No tarot card is absolutely negative, and The Moon, in particular, deserves a closer look.

As a card, The Moon is shrouded in mystery. It calls upon you to clear any fog that surrounds you — because no one is going to do it for you. This a time to stay focused and listen up. You never know what may come to the surface when you're ready to receive it.

Vanessa Kunderman, Lunar Guide and Crystal Healer

Kunderman told R29 that the first few months of the new administration will bring major changes our way — but, imbued with the energy of the moon, we will be ready to meet those challenges head-on: "[February's] Snow Moon reminds us not to let our guard down. It encourages us to cherish the things that we find sacred. We need to let these things we value be known. We need to stand up for them."

She added that it might not be easy to stand up for our values in the coming months, so it may serve us to keep a protective crystal nearby — such as black tourmaline, obsidian or amethyst.

By spring, she sees an increased sense of unity and hope within the country: "The Pink Moon in April is motivational and hopeful, so expect fresh optimism to greet us come spring. We will be able to sew the seeds from [March's] Crow Moon and ride the Pink Moon wave, well into the rhythm that greets us with the May Flower Moon."

Kunderman recommended using carnelian, sunstone, and tangerine quartz to help you process your feelings — positive or negative — throughout the spring.

"By the end of summer, we may be tested again," she warned. "The Red Moon of August is passionate and wild. It ignites a fire within us, and things could get heated." But Kunderman reassured us that our newfound unity will help us through this season of tension.

Looking even farther ahead, Kunderman said we should keep crystals (like apricot agate, galena and iolite) close, since they foster a sense of positivity but will help us to stay focused and motivated as well.

"These stones inspire a courageous spirit while helping us to work more efficiently," she said. "If hope is wavering, these are your guys."

And we have a feeling that, going forward, we'll want all the hope we can find.
