Recently, Justin Bieber reminded fans of a pretty important, though often forgotten, fact about himself: He just wants to be treated with a modicum of respect. Fair enough.
The singer, who is currently touring in Australia, shared some pretty heartbreaking sentiments with his followers on SnapChat over the weekend. "The way that you ask or approach me when you want a photo of me is going to determine if i take a photo or not," he said, adding that he "wants to enjoy the moment" he meets a fan, too.
"But I can't enjoy it if I'm not feeling like there's any respect given to me at that moment,
he went on. "So if you're asking kindly, usually the chances are I'll take a photo. But if perhaps I don't, or if I'm in a mood where I'm not trying to take a photo at that moment please just respect me and treat me the way you want to be treated." Bieber has been mobbed by fans, paparazzi and media since the release of his debut album, My World, in 2009, when he was just 15 years old. "Honestly, I'd rather stand there and talk to you for five minutes and not take any photos, and us be able to have that photo, rather than just chaos," he also says in the video. "It's like, why did you travel to see me in the first place? Was it really to see me, or was it to get that moment of you seeing me so you can tell people about it?" That sounds like a little bit of an existential crisis to us — and brings up an excellent point about the difference between wanting a piece of an artist versus wanting to enjoy their music. Bieber is definitely deserving of Golden Rule status. "I'm not unreachable. I'm not unattainable. I'm just like you," he said in closing. We really hope his fans get this message.
