This Beauty Look Will Make You Rethink Purple Eyeshadow

We tend to get intimidated and skip over the pastel shades in our eyeshadow palettes. They're notoriously hard to pull off and can veer into "miss" rather than "hit" territory, fast. But the beauty look from the No. 21 Fashion Week show in Milan may just have us reconsidering our stance on pale purples.

Makeup artist Tom Pecheux has created a dreamy, lavender-with-glitter shadow look that's equal parts ethereal and electric. The key to keeping it in the whimsical category, rather than the little-kid-trying-makeup-for-the-first-time one, is placement. When applying the shadow, focus your attention on both the top lashline and the waterline. Don't worry about precision — not-too-perfect is what we're going for here.

Pecheux started by applying MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation with his fingers, adding concealer where needed. Then, he dabbed Favourite Pad — a new blush from MAC's spring 2016 collection — on to the apples of the cheeks. For the main attraction — the eyes — he first curled the lashes. Next, he lined the upper and lower lashlines with purple eyeliner, blending it out with the 219 Pencil Brush. For the shadow, the models sported yet another new MAC product not available until spring.

But fear not, there are plenty of violet hues to choose from until then. Apply your product of choice on the eyelid and under the lower lashline, and top it off with MAC Glitter in 3D Lavender for some added shine. Finally, swipe on a couple coats of mascara. Swipe on MAC's Lady Be Good retro liquid matte lipstick, out in the fall, and you're good to go.

No-fuss hair, adorned with an embellished headband, looks lovely with the makeup. Now, go forth and embrace the colors that often get the cold shoulder. You won't regret it.
