The FCC Complaints About Miley Cyrus At The VMAs Are Full Of Hilarious, Pearl-Clutching Outrage

Miley Cyrus has had no qualms about freeing her nipples this year. Heck, she does it so often that her fans and Instagram followers barely bat an eyelash when she ditches her top. But when it came to the star accidentally unleashing her breast while hosting this year's MTV Video Music Awards ("Oh, sorry, my tit's out?" Cyrus said on-air), some people were not so amused.

According to Rolling Stone, the FCC received about 20 complaints after the show from viewers who did not find Miley's just-being-Miley antics very funny. And as evidenced by some of these anonymous complaints, which Rolling Stone accessed through the Freedom of Information Act, it wasn't just older demos that didn't appreciate Cyrus' wardrobe malfunction.

"I only watched about 10 minutes, and it just so happened to be right when Miley Cyrus 'accidentally' exposed her breast on air," wrote a viewer from Eau Claire, WI. "This is not expectable [sic]; nor, her many outfits that I just saw pictures of... And I am 25 years old, so my opinion is most certainly not a reflection of an older generation."

Another viewer from Irvine, CA, wrote, "Miley Cyrus' outfits were over the top, but the view of her naked breast was just obscene. I understand that she wants publicity, but I do not want to see her breasts. My 19-year-old son complained as well. Remember Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl?"

Ms. Jackson came up again in a complaint from a viewer from Schaumburg, IL, who expressed concern that the FCC is no longer effective as its job, questioning whether the agency is in cahoots with MTV. The viewer accused the two entities of being part of a broader nip-slip conspiracy: "I believe the Superbowl [sic] 'wardrobe malfunction' with Janet Jackson was also supported by MTV."

Someone from Gulfport, MS, expressed serious concern — in all caps, nonetheless — for the 22-year-old's mental state: "Miley Cyrus is a VERY TROUBLED CHILD and I can not believe what she was able to get away with on this show. Seems like she is in the news everywhere doing disgusting, perverted and lewd things. I just can't understand why this CHILD gets away with all of this."

"Miley Cyrus said tits and showed a tit for a second," a viewer from Glen Allen, VA, wrote. "Before that, there were multiple words that were not okay, including 'horny.'"

One viewer from Plainfield, NJ, who engaged in a back-and-forth with the FCC over Cyrus' nipple, questioned whether it wasn't all part of her master plan: "Miley showed her breast during the show. She 'apologized' for it, but knowing her 'shock jock' type of antics, this was deliberate and should be punished. If not punished, she will continue with this endless annoying inappropriate to the venue behavior.

"MTV is not Showtime or HBO," the Plainfield viewer continued, "and people do not expect nudity on that network and allow their young children to what their programming."

Of course, Cyrus' nipple wasn't the only aspect of the show that riled more conservative viewers. The FCC received written complaints about Rebel Wilson's "Fuck Tha Stripper Police" T-shirt and the promotion of marijuana, with one Melbourne, AK, viewer tallying "7 pro marijuana references and 2 theatricals pre planned by MTV" that glorified weed smoking. A real no-no in this person's book.

"I just quit weed after 10 years of smoking," the viewer wrote. "And during my younger years music and artist promotion of it was an influence on me. This is really setting a really bad message and not a good example." (Rolling Stone)
