Soon, Facebook Might Be Required At Work (For Real)

The days of checking your Facebook on the sly at work (and rushing to minimize the window when your boss walks by) might be over. Re/Code reports the social media company is ready to launch Facebook at Work, a copy of the platform that is intended to increase communication and productivity on the job, instead of, you know, distracting you.

Re/Code claims that Facebook at Work is essentially "a nearly identical version of the social network designed specifically for communicating with colleagues." It was launched in beta last January. Apparently, Facebook had been developing the work-friendly product for years and is aiming to take on competitors Slack and Microsoft. It's already being tested at 100 companies, including Heineken.

"With a Facebook at Work account, you can use Facebook tools to interact with coworkers. Things you share using your work account will only be visible to other people at your company," Facebook's website says.

We can't imagine At Work being much of a management tool, but we do foresee plenty of holiday party invites migrating to the site, as well as memos about team bonding initiatives, and plenty of GIFs and inside work jokes. No word on when the product will officially launch, but we can only hope a few productivity tools will be implemented, lest we spend too much time Facebook stalking that hot new coworker.
