While red, tired undereyes were, surprisingly, a very real trend at NYFW, it looks like Lorde was suffering from the real thing. The pop star took to Instagram this week to share photos of her eye infection — which, naturally, she offset with a flick of chic, black eyeliner on her non-affected eye. (In hindsight, perhaps this look could have helped Bob Costas during the 2014 Olympics.)
Fans immediately showed their support, while germophobes collectively freaked out. Wait... If Lorde has pinkeye, does that mean Drake now has pinkeye? Kim Kardashian and Kanye West? Baby Nori? Could Lorde have the potential to knock out the entire front row of Fashion Week with conjunctivitis? Are we even going to make it to Marc Jacobs? WHAT. IS. GOING. ON.
Thankfully, it appears that the irritation is not contagious — and isn't just limited to her eye. "The skin is peeling off my lips and hands these days," she wrote on Instagram. "I very rarely see the sun, and my eye is weeping and screaming, and it's Fashion Week, and everyone already thinks I'm strange..." In true Lorde fashion, she wouldn't let a little redness hold her back from living her best life, though. "It's a Kanye show, where the freaks are beautiful, so why not say fuck it and let's dance with the melodrama?" she wrote. We're with you, Lorde — just maybe with a bottle of hand sanitizer.
