Serayah Thinks Being In Taylor Swift's Squad Is Totally Normal

'Tis the summer of the squad — Taylor Swift's girl squad, that is. And while those of us watching their around-the-world adventures and red carpet appearances from afar may find them to be both exotic and aspirational (#SquadGoals, anyone?), card-carrying squad member Serayah McNeill would like to assure us that life inside the world's most famous friend group is in fact totally normal.

"It’s totally personal," the Empire star told Pret-a-Reporter. "She’ll text us and be like, ‘Let’s do this.’ Group message — it’s not a manager thing, it’s just a text. It’s never managers, it’s never business, it’s always fun. Normality first."

Serayah, who plays the role of Dilemma in Swift's squad-filled “Bad Blood” music video, met the pop star for the first time during the video shoot, where they hit it off immediately "[Taylor] asked to have my number, and it just went from there. I didn’t know what to expect. I met her on set, and we were all doing our makeup, and instantly it was girl time," she told the site.

Describing her famous friends as "a breath of fresh air," Serayah goes on to credit the group of singers, actresses, models, and other celebrities for helping her stay grounded. "I was just telling my friend from high school, sometimes life can get so abnormal compared to what real life is like, because of everything going on, and pop culture, and the way our lives are run... We can put on sweats and Converse and just talk about boys. It’s really fun."

While it does sound fun (really fun), we're not so sure about "normal." Talking about boys is one thing. But when the boys in question are the likes of Calvin Harris and Joe Jonas — less normal, we'd say.

Taylor's squad certainly does normal friend things, like throwing one of their besties a baby shower. But when said shower takes place at Soho House in West Hollywood, and is attended by Serayah, Swift, Gigi Hadid, Hailee Steinfeld, Sarah Hyland, Jessica Alba, and Selma Blair, among others, we consider it a step up from run-of-the-mill. But, it's all relative. Maybe this is just what a young star who's grown up in the spotlight considers ordinary. Hey, we should all be so lucky.
