New Red Panda Cub Threatens To Out-Cute Panda Twins

Oh, boy. Our panda cup has runneth over, and we couldn't be more delighted. Over at the National Zoo, giant panda Mei Xiang has given birth to twin cubs. Fun fact: Zoo officials say it's possible the twins have different fathers. Call Maury Povich. Meanwhile, over in the U.K., Longleat Safari & Adventure Park is celebrating the August birth of a baby red panda cub. The as-yet-unnamed baby boy is the son of father Ajenda and mother Rufina, who met when Longleat issued a so-called lonely hearts ad to find a mate for the male. So romantic. Needless to say, the little guy, the first red panda to be bred at the zoo, is too stinkin' cute. Just take a look.

Gotta love a ginger. More importantly, this cutie's birth is an important development for conservations. Red pandas, after all, are classified as "vulnerable" because of their low numbers and risk of being endangered. Every birth matters. Being adorable is just icing on the cake — or is it the bamboo shoot? (Zooborns)
