Sometimes, your wedding day doesn't turn out like you hoped. For Jenn Carter and Solomon Chau of Toronto, things turned out much differently than the pair planned. Chau was diagnosed with liver cancer in December of 2014, which was followed by a surgery that his doctors said was successful. Chau and Carter, who had been together since 2007, resumed planning their wedding. It was set for the summer of 2015.
In March of this year, Chau was rushed to the hospital with severe stomach pain. There, doctors realized his cancer had spread. They told the couple he wouldn't live long enough for them to get married in the summer. So Chau and Carter's family and friends started a GoFundMe campaign to raise enough money so that they couple could get married as soon as possible. The campaign raised over $50,000 — and the two were married early, on April 11.
Chau passed away on August 17, the day the couple originally planned to get married. He was 26.
His obituary tells the endearing story of how he and Carter met: at a house party on his 19th birthday. Two months later, Chau braved a bus trip during a December snowstorm to visit Carter in Toronto. He later moved to the city to be closer to her.
Chau proposed in 2014, before his first cancer diagnosis. "Every girl dreams of growing up to marry a Solomon Chau," the Toronto Star reports Carter said the day after her husband passed. Their lovely wedding video is below.
