Say hello to Disney's first Polynesian princess.
The animation studio unveiled a sneak preview of Moana, the South Pacific-based heroine of (duh) Moana during last week's D23 Expo. Guess what? She doesn't have blonde hair and porcelain skin!
Images from the event show Moana to have long, dark wavy hair, caramel-hued skin, expressive eyes, and an athletic, toned physique that is a far cry from the typical waify Disney princesses. She's also the first woman of color to be represented by Disney since Tiana of The Princess and the Frog.
Check out her assertive warrior stance and spear-handling skills in the photos below. Side note: Cara Delevingne would kill for those brows.
According to the Disney Wiki, Moana is a "spirited teenager" who sails the Pacific Ocean in an "ancestor's quest." Along the way she'll encounter a demigod named Maui, voiced by none other than The Rock. An adorable pig named Pua is also involved.
With all due respect to Anna and Elsa, we're ready for a little Disney diversity.
