Caitlyn Jenner continued her work to spread understanding about transgender issues, while learning more about them herself in a recent visit to a children's hospital. In this week's episode of I Am Cait, Jenner joins friend Candis Cayne along with Chaz Bono at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles' Center for Transyouth Health and Development. They were there for a meeting of Transforming Family, a support group for trans youth and their families. "I'm so excited to have the opportunity to talk to these kids and see how this program gives these kids time and a good environment to be able to mend their relationships with their family," Jenner says in a preview clip of the episode. She was there for a support group meeting of gender diverse teens and got the chance to meet their parents, as well.
"Sometimes it's good to see how other families have dealt with issues like this. Hopefully I'll be able to learn something today, so it will help me with dealing with my kids." The visit was also the first time Jenner got to meet with Bono since transitioning herself. Bono chronicled his own transition in 2010, in the documentary Becoming Chaz. They had previously met when Bono was on Dancing With the Stars. "I can learn a lot from him," Jenner says of Cher's son, who has helped facilitate Transforming Family since 2009. "Caitlyn Jenner's decision to use her series to spotlight groups which provide support and resources to transgender people is very important," Transforming Family advisory board member Nick Adams told Refinery29 in an email. "We hope that viewers at home who see the love and acceptance the trans kids in our group receive will want to learn more about how they can support the trans people in their own families, schools, workplaces, and communities."
