Ever since Adam Lippes launched his own label in 2004 (then under the name Adam + Eve, with partner Electra Toub), the brand has seen a lot of growth. Originally cotton-based, his eponymous label now features high-end textiles that reflect how far it's come. Think laser-cut leather, fur, silk, wool — all the components of a luxury fashion brand with prices that'd make your lips quiver, too. But now, thanks to his debut collaboration with Target, you, too, can get your share of one of New York's premium ready-to-wear brands for no more than $129. (Though if you're down to burn a $950 hole in your wallet for a merino wool cardigan, we won't judge you.)
The Adam Lippes for Target collection features fashion-forward apparel covered in plaid. But why, we asked. Turns out, Target challenged Lippes to design a collection using only buffalo plaid, as the brand is dousing everything in it for fall (be sure to check the fancy Listerine bottles and other national Target partner brand products after the clothes). Such a departure from Lippes' minimal mantra is exciting and ridiculously on-brand for Target loyalists, so it'll be pretty hard to miss when it hits stores September 27. It might even sell through at the speed of Target's last team effort, with Lilly Pulitzer, and we predict it might even have as much buy-me power as the famed Missoni collaboration that sold out immediately in 2011.
As far as styling such standout pieces goes, let your mad-for-plaid friends lead the way. Though buffalo plaid has been a part of fashion for more than 150 years, its boldness has never died down, so it's worth the tucking and pulling to channel the right vibe.
