Gigi Hadid didn't grow up model-thin. She actually had an athletic build that didn't all stem from genetics — she was a serious volleyball player. In a recent interview with Australia's Daily Mail,
the model says she'd rather be a "healthy role model" than super skinny. She also discussed how her past as an accomplished athlete helped her deal with the pressures of the modeling industry. She told the newspaper, "Once you start to embrace what you have, it becomes what you're known for." She's come along way from the days New York agencies told her to loose weight, leaving her in tears. Her mother encouraged her to keep going, and eventually she landed the Guess campaign. Now she's known even outside the fashion world for her spot in Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" video. She really had to project her strong and confident self to become the video's "Slay-Z."
